Proximity2 core is a rewrite of the original idea behind the succesful Proximity1 with many new features, such as repository shadows, link support (a la Linux symlinks), pluggable routing etc. Once polished, the engine will be published here.
Proximity2 for openSUSE aims to fill the void in openSUSE Installation server space. Current "Installation Server" solutions such as the one offered by YaST are simply not enough for me anymore. When published, Liza (the codename of Px2 for openSUSE) will be capable of: Proxy remote RPM repositories (ie. once downloaded update will be shared among machines on local network) Offer extensive repo search capabilities powered by Lucene 2.2 (MD5/SHA1 checksum search, by name, by kw's, etc) Host RPM repositories locally from ISO image (ie. for sysadmins) Host RPM repositories locally from FS (ie. for developers) Accept RPM uploads from local network (ie. for developers) ... more to come |
